HERMetic Portable Level Gauges for Marine Applications

HERMetic UTImeter Gtex for Closed Operation

Hermetic UTIMeter Gtex

Honeywell Tanksystem’s HERMetic UTImeter Gtex is a portable gas tight liquid level gauge designed for closed gauging of hydrocarbons and chemicals. It ensures increased safety and efficiency in cargo control measurement, custody transfer, temperature verification and free water detection on marine vessels.

What Is It?

HERMetic UTImeter Gtex enables three measurements in a single operation:

  • Ullage level measurement
  • Temperature verification
  • Oil-water interface level detection

It is available in four versions:

  • HERMetic UTImeter Gtex with 1-inch sensing probe, FKM gaskets for key hydrocarbon applications
  • HERMetic UTImeter Gtex Chem with 1-inch sensing probe, FFKM gaskets and tape connector for use with corrosive liquids
  • HERMetic UTImeter Gtex Visc or HERMetic UTImeter Gtex Chem Visc with 2-inch load on the sensing probe, recommended for high viscous products in hydrocarbons or corrosive liquids.

HERMetic UTImeter Gtex allows easy battery exchange and can be fitted with interchangeable adaptors for connection on different vapor control valves. The tape cleaning devices, window wiper and tape protection are standard parts.

How Does It Work?

The sensor of HERMetic UTImeter Gtex is calibrated once at the factory and does not require subsequent calibration. The temperature probe is an RTD element, with its characteristics stored inside the sensor. The sensor sends true temperature values to the electronic package. Therefore, changing a sensor or a tape does not require a new calibration.

The unit complies with a host of regulations, including:

  • IMO (Solas 74, MARPOL 73/78)
  • ISO (4512, 3170, 4268)
  • API (MPMS Chap 3.1A, MPMS Chap 7, MPMS Chap 8.1, MPMS Chap 17.11)
  • IP (PMM Part III-1, PMM Part IV)
  • EC Directive 89/336/EEC (EMC)
  • EC Directive 94/9/EC (MED)
  • EC Directive 96/98/EC (ATEX 100a).

It has been approved by:

  • National authorities (USCG, MSA, GOST-R)
  • All major classification societies
  • ATEX, IECEx, Factory Mutual, NEPSI, GOST standard.

What Problems Does It Solve?

Honeywell’s HERMetic UTImeter Gtex allows static verification of the liquid level in a tank and continuous temperature reading of the liquid with high repeatability, thanks to the electronic detection principle. The fully modular unit ensures accuracy and stability, while reducing maintenance costs for users.

Adaptors for Foreign Valves

MMC Tanktech Adapters - UTIMeter

Honeywell provides adaptors and storage tubes for HERMetic gauges and samplers for connection on already installed non-Honeywell valves onboard. With these, users can install the gauges and samplers on any vessel already equipped with ball valves.

What Is It?

Portable level gauging and sampling equipment has to be connected to a ball valve installed on top of each tank. These valves are installed at the ship building stage and are difficult to remove/ exchange when the vessel is already in operation. HERMetic portable equipment can be fitted with special adaptors for installation on non-Honeywell valves, allowing proper functioning of the gauging or sampling system.

The following adaptors are available to users:

  • TS 55000: Used to connect all HERMetic units with 1-inch quick connect coupling to valves with UNF 2 1/2 inch connection.
  • TS 55115: Used to connect all HERMetic units with 2-inch quick connector to valves with UNF 2 1/2 inch connection

In addition, other special adaptors are available on request.

How Does It Work?

In order to match the existing tank tables, it is very important to know the exact type of valves installed onboard the vessel and the reference height of the reading index. The portable equipment, fitted with the correct storage tube, will have the same reading level without the need of reading index level compensation. When a unit is fitted with such connection possibility, it is necessary to have a separate grounding strap for intrinsic safety compliance.

What Problems Does It Solve?

The special storage tube and adaptors permit easy connection on foreign valves without the need to change already installed ball valves onboard and without any correction of the tank tables.

HERMetic Onecal Thermometer for Marine Applications

HERMetic-Onecal-Thermometer

Designed for use in hazardous environments (Zone 0), the HERMetic Onecal is a highly accurate, intrinsically safe portable digital field thermometer for temperature verification inside tanks storing liquids.

What Is It?

Honeywell Tanksystem’s Onecal has been designed with users’ needs in mind. The cable, sensor and electronic display unit components can be changed without special tools or soldering. Recalibration is achieved by a simple ice point check that is easy to carry out without sending the unit to a laboratory, and without the need for a reference thermometer. Only the annual calibration verification, required by national standards, has to be performed against certified traceable reference thermometers. This translates into significant savings in transportation and repair costs, and a high degree of operational readiness.

Accurate temperature measurement is very important for volume calculation. This has been recognized by the international ISO 4268 standard (2000) and the American Petroleum Institute (API) Manual of Petroleum Measurement Standards (MPMS) Chapter 7 (2001). Honeywell’s Onecal helps users measure temperature accurately for spot-on volume calculation.

How Does It Work?

The ergonomic and rugged design of the housing allows for easy and safe cable storage. The cable guides keep the cable secured at all times. By counting the number of cable loops, the fed cable length can be determined.

1 Cable loop = 2 feet
3 Cable loops = 2 meters

What Problems Does It Solve?

A 1°C / 2°F error in temperature measurement in case of crude oil and petroleum products can equate to an error of approximately 0.1 percent in the standard volume calculation. Great care is, therefore, required in the selection and calibration of temperature measurement equipment, and in the procedures used to determine representative average temperature data for bulk petroleum quantities. With Onecal, users benefit from reliable and accurate temperature measurement.

  • HERMetic Deck Valve A-4-2-1 SS: For use with all HERMetic equipment with 1-inch, 2-inch, and 4-inch connections.

How Does It Work?

HERMetic valves are available in 1-inch, 2-inch and 4-inch sizes, depending on the equipment to be fitted on the valves. The top part of the valve is designed to support all HERMetic gauging and sampling equipment with a 1-inch, 2-inch or 4-inch connection.

What Problems Does It Solve?

Honeywell’s HERMetic valves are the interface between the tank and the gauging or sampling equipment. They ensure proper connection of the units and prevent any gas release from the tank during gauging and sampling operation.

Ballast Water Sampler

Sampling Bottles UTI Meter

Sampling ballast water during ship inspections.

The problem of invasive species transported in ballast water has long been recognized – and long been left unaddressed, at least on an international scale. Honeywell Tank system is a global leader in gauging and sampling solutions used in hydrocarbons, oil, fine chemicals and water. Our products are installed and used day and night on more than 7000 ships and barges across the globe. We applied our know-how and our quality system to the new challenges brought by the ballast water convention, to bring practical and safe solutions for in-tank ballast water sampling.

What Is It?

The ballast water sampler solution comprises 3 components:

The Deck valve

Made of stainless steel with high Molybdenum content and PFTE seals: Approved and certified for marine application, and designed to last at least longer than the ship on which they are installed. The deck valve is the perfect solution to ensure easy sampling operations and prevent against water contamination and release of gases.

The Sampler

The Hermetic sampler GTX is designed for the maximum security of operations while keeping the operations simple and quick.

Bottles

The four bottles types have been designed to fulfill the difficult requirements of Ballast water gauging : some inspections are based on getting a representative sample of the water column (running bottle); Other inspections or scientific sampling activities require to collect exclusively the top surface of the water (zone bottle), or the bottom of the tank (bottom bottle), or a sample taken at a precise height (spot bottle).

What Problems Does It Solve?

  • Quick and easy sampling of the Ballast water for analysis before discharge
  • Safe operations without contamination nor release of gases
  • Precise choice of height to get the sample from - Far superior to in-line sampling
  • Sample can be used for salinity check (verifying D1 procedure) or microbiological check (verifying D2 procedure)

Gauging and Sampling for high-pressure Shuttle Tankers and Parcel Tankers

High Pressure Gauging and Sampling Solution

Shuttle tankers and parcel (chemical) tankers operators , facing stringent regulations, must reduce the amount of VOC gas (Volatile Organic Compound) released during loading operations. The threshold of the pressure-relief valves, and the pressure of Inert gas, moves from the standard 0.18 to 0.25 bar to up to 0.7 bar. Specially designed ships with reinforced tanks are built for this purpose.

The challenge is to assure the compulsory gas-tight gauging and sampling operations, at high pressure, while maintaining the intrinsically safe design for explosion safety.

What Is It?

The high pressure gauging and sampling solution comprises 4 components :

The Deck Valve

Made of stainless steel with high Molybdenum content and PFTE seals: it ensure easy sampling operations and prevent against water contamination and release of gases.

The UTImeter Gauge: Ullage, Temperature, Interface

This model has been reinforced to maintain gas tightness, while staying lightweight and easy to operate.

The Sampler

The Hermetic sampler GTX CHEM 0.7 bar is designed for the maximum security of operations while keeping the operations simple and quick.

The DIP

The HERMetic DIP 2 GT 07bar 30m allows checking on the presence of sediments at the bottom of the tank

What Problems Does It Solve?

  • Shuttle and parcel tankers operators compliance with environment and MARPOL regulations
